The belt is not made out of rubber, it is made out of fibers posted by Technomancer on December 12, 2009 at 06:08 PM |

prior to that is based on speculation. However, it is not unreasonable to be wary of decade old rubber that revolves around the sprockets keeping the valves from slamming into the pistons. Just because they didn't set a time limit on the belt doesn't mean it isn't wise to change it out after a reasonable life. Also, the fibers may be the backbone of the belt, but the teeth are what engage the sprockets. As far as I can tell, those are made of rubber.
